Creating Articulation Agreements

To meet their educational goals, some students transfer from one University System campus to another or take courses on two different campuses. To do so, an articulation agreement is required.

Many articulation agreements already exist. To search the list, go to the Index of Articulation Agreements.

Credit Evaluation
Credit evaluation is often a part of creating the articulation agreement. All NDUS students and graduates are eligible for credit evaluation. Associate of applied science applicants must meet a 16-credit minimum. Credit may be given for work experience in a technical field.

Agreement Content
University System articulation agreements may be stated in the standard format of the campus, but must include:
  • Department/degree program of the sending institution

  • Department/degree program of the receiving institution

  • Specific requirements for admission to the program

  • Outline of the program, specifying the courses and credits to be earned

  • Completion requirements

  • Timeline for completion (deadline should be reasonable, but definite)

  • Signatures and dates authorizing the agreement
Agreement Manager
For each articulation agreement, a manager must be designated. The articulation agreement manager serves as the contact person for concerns regarding the agreement, mediates interpretation, facilitates changes, disseminates information, trains academic advisors and assesses agreement effectiveness. The manager informs the University System coordinator of articulation and transfer when agreements have been accepted or changed.
