WILLISTON, N.D.- The WSC Summer Bridge program has shown great success since its start on June 2nd. Students enrolled in the WSC Summer Bridge program has increased by four times since last year.
Laurel Kaae, head of the Summer Bridge program, says, "A positive increase in classes and student attendees this year is showing the success of the Summer Bridge Program in Algebra and Writing Preparation."
The purpose of the Summer Bridge program is to get students ready for college coursework. The program replaces remedial classes, so students are able to jump into college courses better prepared for success.
Amanda Davis, a summer bridge instructor, says, "There are a lot more people interested this year. The participation has greatly increased."
The program has expanded this year by adding a writing preparation class students have found extremely helpful.
"Summer bridge program has helped me in many ways. It has helped me learn how to use correct punctuation in the right areas," said a current summer bridge student.
High school counselors want to start recruitment for Summer Bridge right away next fall and throughout the school year. "ACT scores have already come back for some students so this would be the time to recruit," said Kaae. The program is a successful way to increase ACT scores in the Math and English sections.
