Posted on 3/28/2012
North Dakota State College of Science has released the latest version of NDSCS Mobile, the College's official mobile application. The new version - NDSCS Mobile 2.0 - includes new features and enhanced functionality for Android and iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users including: Directory: Look up students, faculty and staff in the public directory. Places: View operating hours, dining menus and details for places on campus.
About: Learn more about the College and access important links. Springboard Personalization: Organize the modules within the application (iOS only).
Augmented Reality: Use device's GPS to access a 3D view of campus (iOS only).
Enhanced Tours: Take interactive self-guided tours - on or off campus. "Version 2.0 of the NDSCS mobile app is robust and sure to wow users who will benefit from the enhanced features," said Barbara Spaeth-Baum, executive director of NDSCS marketing. "We are especially thrilled with the new augmented reality feature."
Available on iPhones, augmented reality uses the device's camera and GPS to give the user a view of the real-world environment that has been augmented by computer-generated data. On NDSCS's Wahpeton campus, this feature allows users to view building details, walking times to other campus locations, and hours of operation of places nearby. The College's mobile developer, Blackboard Mobile™, recently launched this innovative technology, and NDSCS is one of their first clients to go live with the augmented reality feature.
More than 1,000 people have already downloaded NDSCS Mobile since its launch in September 2011. The version 2.0 updates were developed based on user requests and recommendations. Version 2.0 for BlackBerry® users is coming soon.
NDSCS Mobile is available for free download directly to your device from the Apple App Store, Google Play and BlackBerry App World. For more information on the app, visit www.ndscs.edu/mobile.
