Summer Camp
Young entrepreneurs' summer camp to be held at NDSCS

Enterprising 9-13 year olds from Wahpeton and Breckenridge will become innovative business owners and problem-solving citizens during the Third Annual Entrepreneurship Summer Camp, July 15-19, 2013 on the campus of North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.

On the first day students will organize themselves into an entrepreneurial community, create their own currency, elect their own leaders, begin to recognize economic opportunities and start up their own businesses. By the end of the camp, these budding entrepreneurs will be smarter about economics, personal finance, business, leadership and citizenship. They will know that they can make things happen.

"Together they will make the kind of town where innovative young people own the businesses and make the decisions," said program director, Barry Striegel, a veteran elementary and middle school teacher.

Campers will also get to meet area entrepreneurs and other community leaders. The program runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 am.-3:00 p.m. and includes breakfast and lunch.

Using the latest technology just like real entrepreneurs do is an important part of the camp. Using the 24 iPads and other technological resources in the camp's business center, young entrepreneurs will be responsible for all aspects of business start-up and management including creating effective marketing materials, conducting consumer surveys and keeping good financial records.

The Wahpeton and Breckenridge School Districts, NDSCS and the Wahpeton/Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce support youth entrepreneurship education so that children learn the skills and attitudes associated with academic, economic and social success.
