North Dakota State College of Science will celebrate Homecoming during the week of September 30-October 5, 2013 in Wahpeton, N.D. A full line-up of events for students, alumni and community members is planned, including a campus and community decorating contest, Homecoming Coronation, a pep rally, parade, volleyball match and football game.
Once again a decorating contest will be held this year for both downtown businesses and campus departments. Judging will take place during Homecoming week with voting available online on the Wahpeton Daily News web site, wahpetondailynews.com.
Homecoming Coronation is set for 8 p.m. Wednesday night at the Bremer Bank Theater in the Harry Stern and Ella Stern Cultural Center.
Six distinguished alumni and friends will be recognized as the 2013 Alumni/Foundation Homecoming Honorees: Terry Goerger, Alumnus of the Year; Max Reinke, Tradition Award; Dale Grosz, Wildcat of the Year; General Equipment and Don Shilling, Friends of the College; Ed and Cathy Uhlich, Parade Grand Marshals; and Sherri Metcalf and Lyle Walen, Commitment to Excellence. The recognition ceremony will take place on Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m. at the Alley in the Student Center.
This year the NDSCS-Fargo location will be hosting the Campus Family Day on Friday, October 4 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Friday also marks NDSCS's 42nd Annual Family Day in Wahpeton. Registration for Family Day begins at 9 a.m. in the Lambert Huppeler Foyer in the Harry Stern and Ella Stern Cultural Center and includes campus and community tours. Other activities for the day include a caricature artist in the Student Center and lunch, which is available for purchase to the community, and games on the Oval from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Homecoming pep rally begins at noon followed by dessert in the Student Center at 1 p.m. Later that night, the Wildcat Volleyball match begins at 7 p.m. at the Clair T. Blikre Activities Center in the Ed Werre Arena.
On Saturday, the Wildcat Tracks 5K Run/Walk starts bright and early at 8 a.m. at the Chahinkapa Zoo. The annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 10 a.m. with a tailgate party to follow at the Earl "Skip" Bute Alumni Stadium. The Wildcat Football team will kick-off against the Dakota College Bottineau Lumberjacks at 1 p.m.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet, held in the Flickertail Dining Room in the Student Center, will be the final event of the week. A social will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening followed by the banquet at 6:30 p.m. The NDSCS Athletic department will induct the following individuals into the Hall of Fame: Melissa Godlewski, Thomas Kinchen, Jr., Twila Leingang, Diane Ricker, David Sherbrooke and both the 1969 and 1989 Men's Basketball Teams.
