ND State Aid Management System (ND SAMS) Portal

This portal was built specifically to manage the various state-funded scholarships, grants, loan repayment, and reciprocity. You can apply for scholarships, complete outstanding verifications, review your awards, and request a transfer of your state aid to a new college.

First-Time Accessing the Portal

  1. Keep these instructions open as you complete the ND SAMS Portal registration steps! You will need a computer and your phone.
  2. Go to ND SAMS log-in. Note that it is best to work from a computer rather than attempting to apply with your phone due to the multifactor authentication (MFA) step. Additionally, Google Chrome is recommended.
  3. You will see a screen asking for your email. You do no need to enter your email, but DO select “Register” just below the continue button.
  4. Enter your email on the next screen and click “Continue”.
  5. Open the Google Authenticator App (recommended App) on your phone to access the multifactor authentication (MFA) code.
  6. If your email address is not listed in the Google Authenticator App on your phone, click the plus sign in the lower right corner. Select “Scan QR Code”. Scan the code on your computer screen. A 6-digit code will appear in the App that is linked to your email address.
  7. Select “Continue” on your computer. Enter your password and the 6-digit code from the App. Note that the number changes every 30 seconds, so check that you enter the correct 6-digit code.
  8. Click “Sign In” and this takes you to the portal.
  9. The first time you log in, you will need to complete the step “Verify My Access.” Enter your information. Select “no” if you were not specifically provided with a registration code by our office. Click “Next” and then “Verify My Information.”
  10. You can now select your application on the left side of the screen.

Returning Users

  1. Keep these instructions open as you log into the ND SAMS Portal. You will need your computer and your phone.
  2. Go to ND SAMS log-in. Note that it is best to work from a computer rather than attempting to apply with your phone due to the multifactor authentication (MFA) step. Additionally, Google Chrome is recommended.  
  3. Enter your email address that you initially used to register for the ND SAMS Portal. Select “Continue.”
  4. Enter the password that you set up when you registered.
  5. Open the Google Authenticator App (recommended App) on your phone to view the multifactor authentication (MFA) code associated with your email address.
    • If your email address is not listed in the Google Authenticator App on your phone:
      • Select “Resend MFA Code” on your computer.
      • Enter your email and click “Get MFA Code and “Yes, send it!”
      • Go to your email to view the QR code.
      • Click the plus sign in the lower right corner of your phone. Select “Scan QR Code”. Scan the code on your computer screen. a 6-digit code will appear in the App that is linked to your email address.
  6. Enter the 6-digit code from the App. Select “enter”. You are now in the ND SAMS Portal.
