Chancellor Co-Chairs White House Roundtable on Cyber Education

BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota University System Chancellor Mark Hagerott this week co-chaired one of three roundtables held at the White House during its Cyber Workforce and Education Summit.

The summit was called by the Office of the National Cyber Director as both a call to action and to facilitate robust dialogue among leaders to “focus and direct” the country’s “interagency efforts to raise cybersecurity awareness for all.” The nearly 70 participants were drawn from higher education, federal government, the nonprofit sector, and business and industry. The summit was designed to be an early step toward progressing on workforce-related issues.

Hagerott co-led the roundtable on Cyber Education for All, which included themes such as the increasing interconnectedness of society and equipping all Americans with the knowledge and skills to engage with the global digital infrastructure. Additional discussion revolved around providing skills-based cyber education that would help “enable individual career success, broad economic prosperity, and collective security.”

“I’m honored to have taken part and shared the perspective that we in North Dakota have found on the challenges and concerns of the ever-changing digital world,” said Hagerott. “Summits like these can serve as a catalyst for action to address this urgent challenge, especially with our state’s advanced energy and ag industries which are progressively digitizing.”
