12 Feb State Science Olympiad seeks volunteers
Volunteers are needed for the North Dakota State Science Olympiad, scheduled for Saturday, April 13, on the NDSU campus. The event is a middle school and high school team competition where students compete in events pertaining to various STEM topics.
“This is a very large event, and we expect more than 800 middle and high school students, teachers and spectators will arrive on the NDSU campus to participate,” said Guy Hokanson, Science Olympiad director. “We are still in need of about 150 volunteersin order to make this a fun and exciting experience for the students. There are many events from multiple disciplines from which to choose.”
According to Hokanson, volunteers are needed to take charge of running an event; help with an event by timing, scoring, grading or judging; and general helpers willing help with setup, cleanup, morning registration, breakfast and lunch delivery and running errands.
“No previous experience is necessary,” Hokanson said. “You do not need to be an expert in a scientific field. Enthusiasm and a willingness to share your time are the only prerequisites.”
A volunteer meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. in Quentin Burdick Building 106. Check the Science Olympiad website for future volunteer meeting times.
