WSC Students Named to the 2019 All-North Dakota Academic Team

WILLISTON, N.D. – Williston State College’s Shali Sheridan and Anthony Campbell have been named to the 2019 All-North Dakota Academic Team, which recognizes the academic achievements and distinguished leadership of community college students.

In North Dakota, the community college awards are co-sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society and the North Dakota University System College Technical Education Council. Students named to the state team also are nominated for the All-USA Academic Team.

Sheridan and Campbell were honored at a dinner and awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 19 at Bismarck State College. Dr. Mark Hagerott, Chancellor of the North Dakota University System, and Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of the PTK Honor Society, spoke at the event.

Karissa Kjos and Lynne Raymond, co-advisors for WSC’s PTK Chapter Alpha Rho Iota, and District 1 Representatives Patrick Hatlestad and David Richter attended the dinner in support of Sheridan and Campbell.

“Shali and Anthony went above and beyond in their academic achievements and organizational involvement at WSC and these are two large reasons we submitted their names for this award,” explained Kjos. “Both are dedicated, outgoing, and driven to accomplish any goal. We will miss them at WSC but are excited to see what they accomplish as they transfer on to Dickinson State University (DSU) and Minot State University (MSU).”

From Faith, South Dakota, Sheridan is a WSC Student Ambassador and PTK member. She is also on the women’s basketball team, the Teton Activity Board, and works as an assistant in the Academic Affairs office. Sheridan will graduate this spring with an Associate of Arts, an Associate of Science, and an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management. She will pursue a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a major in Finance at DSU.

“WSC has opened a lot of doors academically for me,” expressed Sheridan. “I’ve made many good connections and been presented with opportunities that I wouldn’t have had anywhere else.”

A Williston, North Dakota native, Campbell is in Student Senate, CRU (Campus Crusades for Christ), and PTK. He will graduate this spring with an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Applied Science in Accounting and Business Management. Campbell will pursue a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Business Management at MSU.

“My time at WSC has meant a lot to me,” said Campbell. “It has allowed me to learn and grow in an environment that is open to anyone.”

Nominations are based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community. Each member of the North Dakota team receives a certificate of congratulations from Governor Doug Burgum, an award certificate, a medallion, and a monetary award.
