UND Wind Ensemble Spring Concert features tribute to retiring Michael Blake April 25

The University of North Dakota Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. James Popejoy, will present their spring concert in tribute to Professor Michael Blake, on Thursday, April 25, at 8:30 p.m. in the Chester Fritz Auditorium.

Tickets, available at the door, are $7 for adults, $3 for students/senior citizens, or $14 per family. Military are admitted free with ID.

The program will feature music from award-winning composers, including Alfred Reed’s concert overture, The Hounds of Spring; two works in tribute to Professor Blake, One Life Beautiful and Imbizo by Julie Giroux; and Frank Ticheli’s monumental Symphony No.2. They will close their program with The Gum-suckers March by Percy Grainger.

NOTE: To honor the retirement of UND Professor of Music Michael Blake, there will be a reception in the lobby of the Chester Fritz Auditorium prior to the concert at 8 p.m. Music will be provided by the UND Jazz Combo, coached by Professor Blake. This will also allow those who are planning to attend the Grand Forks Public Schools All-City Band Concert with the Copper Street Brass (Red River High School, 7 p.m.) to enjoy both events.
