NDSU baseball players named to Summit League All-Academic Team

 

NDSU senior Jayse McLean and redshirt sophomore Charley Hesse have been named to the 2019 Summit League Baseball All-Academic Team.

This is the second-straight year that McLean has been named to the team, while it is the first honor for Hesse. Both have previously been named to the Summit League Honor Roll, with McLean being a three-time selection to that team.

Hesse led the Bison with a .299 average on the year, scoring 20 runs on 32 hits in 107 at-bats. He had five doubles and a home run with a .374 slugging percentage and .420 on-base percentage. Hesse was a 2019 Second Team All-Summit League selection. A marketing major, Hesse has a 3.59 cumulative GPA.

McLean hit .174 in his final season in 34 games. McLean had 16 hits in 92 at-bats, while driving in 12 runs. He earned a spot on the Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team for the second-straight year. McLean was one of three players in the Summit League to earn a spot on the all-academic team the last two years. A graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, McLean had a 4.0 GPA in both undergrad and graduate school.

To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitions. The Baseball Academic All-League Team is made up of the nine student-athletes plus ties, receiving the most votes.
