21 Aug Move-in Day: A busy, eventful experience at NDSU
NDSU will become a beehive of activity Saturday, Aug. 24, as thousands of students move in to the residence halls for the start of fall semester.
Volunteers will be on hand to welcome the arrivals and ensure the process goes smoothly. Families are encouraged to come to campus between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“Although the calendar says summer, opening day is the unofficial kickoff to fall,” said Rian Nostrum, director of Residence Life. “Opening day represents the start of the academic year and hundreds of faculty, staff, and students are prepared to greet arriving families. Our goal is to remove any unneeded stress to the emotional day.”
Driving instructions have been supplied for each hall to allow the volume of vehicles to be spread between the various roadways coming to campus. Parents and students are urged to ignore their Global Positioning Systems once they get to Fargo, and follow the instructions they have received.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the NDSU Bookstore will have a pop-up shop near the Residence Dining Center and Reed/Johnson, selling a variety of room essentials,
NDSU Dining Centers open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch. Seven-day meal plans begin at 10:30am; students with a five-day meal plan, along with all family members and friends, can eat for a discounted rate of $8 per person. The NDSU Food Court and Coffee Shops also will be open.
After students have moved in, they can enjoy refreshments, games and prizes at the Community Fair in the Memorial Union Ballroom from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. And at 5 p.m., Welcome Week activities begin for first-year students with community gatherings and dinner with other students in their residence hall.
