31 Oct NDSU Veterans Day ceremony set for Nov. 8
NDSU’s Veteran Alliance Organization, known as VALOR, is set to host the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8:30 a.m. at the flag plaza near the south entrance of the Memorial Union.
If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will start inside the Memorial Union and conclude at the flag plaza.
The ceremony will include opening remarks from VALOR faculty representative Carol Cwiak, associate professor of emergency management, and NDSU Interim Provost Ken Grafton.
NDSU Human Resources director John Woolsey, retired Marine Corps master sergeant and VALOR advisory board member, will give a commemorative speech that honors the service of veterans.
The speakers will be followed by a bagpipe rendition of “When the Battle is O’er,” performed by retired Air Force major Jim Stoddard, assistant director of Veterans Educational Training with NDSU Student Success Programs; Carol Haukebo, NDSU Budget Office analyst; and Meri Quanbeck, mother of NDSU sophomore Jamison Quanbeck.
NDSU Army and Air Force ROTC cadets will be in formation during the ceremony and conduct a flag raising. ROTC Cadet Sergeant Major Crysta Halgrimson along with Cadets Alex Gustafson, Olivia Nellermoe and Jacob Boguslawski from the Army ROTC, and Cadets Randy Peterson and Cole Eidsvoog of the Air Force ROTC will lead the effort.
Isaac Hicks, a senior instrumental music education major at NDSU, will play “Taps.”
NDSU faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. The ceremony is open to the public.
