Interim President Wynne announces new role for Senior Vice Provost Debbie Storrs, effective June 1; to succeed retiring Provost Tom DiLorenzo
UND Interim President Joshua Wynne has announced that Debbie Storrs will serve as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective June 1, replacing current Provost and Vice President Tom DiLorenzo, who recently announced his retirement.
Dr. Wynne made the announcement after close coordination with incoming UND President Andy Armacost.
Storrs’ interim appointment is a 13-month contract, concluding June 30, 2021. DiLorenzo will retire on June 1, after seven years as Provost and Vice President. A national search for the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs position will be launched in the near future.
About Debbie Storrs:
Storrs joined UND in 2013 when she was named Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. As Dean, Storrs provided leadership to the largest College at UND, where she developed internal research and creative grant opportunities for faculty, supported high-impact practices for students, and re-engaged the college’s external advisory group to help raise visibility and fiscal support for the liberal arts.
Storrs has served as Senior Vice Provost in the Division of Academic Affairs since September of 2017. Storrs began her role in a half-time capacity, where, among many duties, she served as captain for Goal 1 of the One UND Strategic Plan, ensuring every student has a strong liberal arts foundation, while also maintaining her position as Dean of the UND College of Arts & Sciences. In 2018, Storrs was named full-time Senior Vice Provost.
As Senior Vice Provost, Storrs has been responsible for leading, mentoring and collaborating with directors and staff in Student Academic Success & Career Engagement, Essential Studies, the Honors Program, Reserve Officer Training Corps, the International Center, Strategic Enrollment Management, the Registrar’s Office, Assessment and Accreditation, Academic Fellowships/Scholarships, and the Teaching Transformation & Development Academy. She also continues to support and lead recruitment and retention efforts and facilitates collaboration with other NDUS institutions and beyond.
