26 Sep NDSU offers graduate certificate in women and gender studies
NDSU’s women and gender studies program has received State Board of Higher Education approval to launch a graduate certificate program.
The program will provide opportunities to integrate gender and sexuality studies using a variety of approaches and disciplinary methodologies. Students will complete the training in conjunction with their primary graduate degree by completing 14-credit hours of work dedicated to the study of women and gender studies.
“We are grateful for the support from departments and colleagues across the university to pool intellectual resources for this certificate program,” said Ann Burnett, professor of communication and director of women and gender studies. “Graduate students will now be able to focus on issues of gender and sexuality in their respective studies. Students with this certificate will have an advantage in the job market or in future education endeavors.”
The NDSU women and gender studies program offers an undergraduate major and minor, and partners with the student-led Women’s Activist Organization as well as other NDSU departments and community organizations. The program also is home to the Laurie J. Loveland scholarship and speaker’s endowment. The Loveland endowment provides full-ride scholarships to students entering public service and invites well-known feminist speakers to campus, such as transgender activist Janet Mock.
