20 Jun SBHE-directed TikTok ban implemented on NDUS networks and devices
BISMARCK, N.D. – Core Technology Services (CTS) has implemented a directive from the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education (SBHE), which banned TikTok from the NDUS network and devices. The SBHE voted 7-1 to implement the ban by July 1, 2023.
As of June 20, 2023, all traffic to TikTok via the NDUS network, wireless and wired, is blocked, and the TikTok app will be removed from NDUS-owned devices.
“The network and security teams initiated the effort to ensure the SBHE directive was fully in place by July 1. The TikTok app, website, and network traffic was blocked on the systems that Core Technology Services controls, which includes all campus and CTS networks and CTS devices. Campuses will implement the ban on their own devices,” said Darin King, NDUS vice chancellor of information technology.
The SBHE banned TikTok from all 11 NDUS campuses during their March 30 meeting, with a directive to have the ban in place by July 1, 2023. Students, staff and faculty may continue to access TikTok on personal devices as long as it is not accessed through the NDUS network.
