Individuals assigned to positions in this job family maintain a uniform flow of steam by fueling high-pressure gas, coal, or oil-fired boilers, and all related equipment. Working conditions for positions in this family may include extreme temperature, high-pressure steam, hazardous chemical, heights, confined spaces and high noise levels.

Examples of Duties:

  • Operate coal conveyors, coal elevators, rail car shakers, car hoes, and other coal handling equipment
  • Operate and maintain pay loaders, pneumatic ash systems, ash hoppers, vibrators, silos, and associated ash baghouses
  • Fire coal-fired and oil/gas boilers; operate boiler feed, vacuum, and transfer pumps
  • Maintain gas, oil, and coal fired boilers and associated equipment
  • Operate computerized boiler controls and boiler control systems
