Scope of Work:

Individuals assigned to positions in this job family are responsible for performing custodial work and services required for the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.

Examples of Duties:

  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors and other surfaces
  • Vacuum carpets, mattresses, draperies, etc.; shampoo carpets
  • Strip, seal, and wax floor surfaces
  • Wash windows, walls, woodwork, etc.
  • Sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, water fountains, etc.
  • Clean and dust furniture, fixtures, and related furnishings
  • Move furniture, supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Clean snow and debris from sidewalk
  • Collect and dispose of waste paper and other waste materials
  • Perform minor repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • Notify supervisor concerning the need for major repairs or additions to buildings, grounds, equipment, etc.
  • Maintain or assist in maintaining outside premises by mowing lawns, trimming shrubbery, cultivating flowers, etc.
  • Lock and unlock doors, check for lights left on and open windows in rooms, and provide security when buildings are not occupied

  • Set up and operate machines and equipment for collating, punching holes, stamping numbers, folding, cutting, ruling, roughing, indexing, padding, stitching, or gluing
  • Wrap, box, or otherwise prepare finished products for delivery or shipment; complete job order data as required
  • Determine supply quantities; maintain equipment to include minor maintenance, adjustments, and cleaning. May determine most efficient method of binding within order requirements

  • Determine and perform appropriate method of cooking such as baking, roasting, broiling, frying, or steaming foods
  • Provide seasoning as required
  • Observe and test foods during preparation to insure the appropriate cooking stages
  • Transfer food from cooking to serving containers
